Brief Out Line Plan of Adventure Program within the School Premises

In the one/two day adventure course all the activities are designed to challenge and improve the mental and physical skills of the students. The emphasis is on learning by doing in a safe, supportive environment. The activities are designed so that everyone, with the willingness and determination to try, can succeed at their own level.

Philosophy

The basic concept of the program is experiential learning or learning through experience. Participants take part in various activities, which initiate and enhance skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. These activities are facilitated by Altitudes Instructors who ensure activities are adapted to fit the participants' capabilities to maximize learning. As the experiences in this program are more vivid than normal classroom lectures, participants have a higher retention and transfer of the lessons learnt to working and personal life. This is a key strength of this adventure program.

Human Web - Planning & Team Work

Activities
The Adventure Course consisting of a series of activities including aid climbing, rappelling, outdoor camping, rope courses, mind games and raft building (for seniors only) form the basis of the course. The program is based in and around the School premises using the specialist facilities, school buildings, swimming pool and the school grounds.

Aims
Personal Development through Experiential Learning. Virtually all activities in the course will provide each participant the opportunity to have a better understanding about his personal strengths and weaknesses and to develop his skills in different areas.

Ice Breakers and Team Dynamics Self Introduction / Hopes & Fears

Develop group spirit, communication, interaction & sharing of ideas.

Jumaring

A technique of negotiating difficult pitches on rock and ice.

Rappelling

It is a technique of sliding down a rope controlling ones speed with friction on the line to come down a rock face or an ice face.

Rope Courses

A series of rope and wooden bridges, platforms, nets and ladders designed to provide various levels of difficulties from the easy to the challenging. These are for personal challenge and test, building self-confidence, teamwork and mutual trust and support.

Flying Fox

It is a high adventure based fun activity in which a person is lowered down through a slanting rope at different speeds.

Twine

The activity is to balance oneself on a rope with the help of overhanging ropes to cover a certain distance.

Broken Squares

It is a communication exercise in which equal sized squares have to be completed with given pieces.  The focus is on teamwork. 

Tyrolean Traverse

It is a method of crossing a river with the help of ropes, harness and carabiner.

Burma Bridge

It is a technique of crossing a gorge, with the help of ropes. It is an improvised bridge made of ropes and lines

Trust Fall

An activity where a person let goes of him/her for a split of a second trusting his/her team members. This activity brings out strong positives for trust and responsibility.

Raft Building

The activity involves the group to plan and prepare a raft with the help of logs and barrels. Strong emphasis on planning, communication and team work.

Tent Pitching

Pitching A shape tents, selecting sites and dos and don’ts

Human Web

This activity is to transport the entire team through a web made of ropes. The team has to creatively plan, allocate responsibilities take leadership and execute in cohesion to successfully complete the task.

Perfect Square

To make a perfect square with the help of rope while the team is blindfolded. Evolving new methods for accomplishing given task.
